Meet Kaitlin
Kaitlin Maud-Moon is a mixed media artist, art-based researcher, and Art Therapist who believes in the transformative power of creative expression. Across modalities, Kaitlin uses art to give form to the ineffable—those thoughts, feelings, and experiences that cannot be fully captured in words. Whether building understanding across communities, processing trauma, or bringing ideas to life, she sees art as a bridge to new realities and deeper connection.
In 2023, she founded Maud and Moon studio in East Austin’s Canopy Arts Complex. Maud and Moon is a creative workshop and safe space where people of all identities and orientations are welcomed to express themselves freely. The studio supports adolescents and adults from diverse backgrounds in navigating life’s challenges, reconnecting with purpose, and discovering their unique artistic voice. While art therapy services are offered by appointment, the studio welcomes the public on the first Saturday of every month.
Kaitlin earned her master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Art Therapy from Lesley University, a dual-licensure program that integrates psychotherapeutic theory with expressive arts practice. Her clinical training includes a 10-month internship in a middle school counseling program supporting students with high needs, and a practicum at SAGE Studio, a progressive arts space for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, where she now serves on the Board of Directors. Her graduate research explored trauma, art-making, and meaning-making, and she recently submitted a paper for publication on community art activism at the U.S.–Mexico border.
Grounded in a liberation psychology framework, Kaitlin’s work is person-centered and trauma-informed. She values learning that happens outside of traditional clinical settings and actively seeks out trainings that reflect a holistic, real-world understanding of care. In addition to completing coaching training with the Co-Active Training Institute (CTI) in 2023, she is certified in Mental Health First Aid and has trained with the Zendo Project in psychedelic sitting and integration.
Before entering the field of therapy, Kaitlin spent 15 years working as a strategist and researcher in the private sector- experience that gives her a unique lens on burnout, high-performance environments, and the creative process. Her work is guided by a belief in equity, compassion, and the healing potential of art, and she is committed to offering inclusive, affirming care that works in solidarity with individuals and communities who have been historically marginalized or underrepresented in mental health spaces.
She invites anyone curious about working together to connect.
