Art Therapy
Rediscover yourself through the creative process.
Many of my clients come to art therapy because they’re feeling overwhelmed, burnt out, or simply disconnected from themselves. They’ve tried to think or talk their way through it, but find that their usual strategies no longer bring relief. Through the creative process, we can access a different way of knowing- one that helps restore balance and reconnects you to yourself.
Art therapy offers a way to slow down and listen- not just with your mind, but with your hands, your body, and your intuition. You don’t need to be an artist, you only need a willingness to create, to explore, and to see what emerges. In session, I describe artmaking as a language that can speak what words can’t, bringing form to feelings of stress, uncertainty, grief, and also hope, curiosity, and possibility.
What is Art Therapy?
Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy that integrates psychology, neuroscience, and the creative process. We use artmaking to help folks express, explore, and integrate experiences that may be hard to put into words.
Sessions blend art and conversation in a way that supports emotional regulation, insight, and resilience. Materials might include paint, collage, clay, or other mixed media depending on your comfort and goals. You do not need to have any artistic skill- curiosity and willingness to try something new are the only requirement.
Art therapists in Texas are doubly trained and doubly licensed. Everything a counselor can offer, art therapists can offer and also offer in an arts-based way. My work is grounded in clinical best practices and trauma-informed care, while my approach draws from humanistic, existential, and feminist theories of care.
People often find their way to art therapy when they’re feeling:
Burnt out or creatively blocked
Overwhelmed by stress or life transitions
Disconnected from their body or sense of purpose
Tired of managing symptoms rather than truly healing
Art therapy can bring you back into self-awareness and self-expression. It helps regulate the nervous system, externalize inner experiences, and reconnect to joy and meaning (even amid challenge and change).
While everyone’s process is unique, art therapy can help you feel:
Calmer and more centered
More connected to your emotions and body
Clearer about what you want and need
Inspired in your creative process/practice
Better able to manage stress and prevent burnout

-
Professional Burnout
The pace and culture of modern work is simply not sustainable for most creative professionals. But you don’t have to live with overbearing perfectionism, creative block, or burnout. Drawing from my own experience in corporate settings, I help clients use art therapy to reconnect with intuition, quiet the inner critic, and rediscover creativity as a source of renewal rather than pressure.
-
Neurodivergence
Art therapy can be especially supportive for folks with ADHD, Autism, AuDHD, and other forms of neurodivergence. Creative processes offer nonverbal ways to communicate, process experiences, and/or build skills in a neuroaffirming environment. The studio is a place where you are welcomed to unmask and express all parts of yourself.
-
Pain, Illness, Disability
Living with ongoing health conditions can leave you feeling disconnected from your body- or even in conflict with it. Art therapy offers a way to honor your lived experience, process the trauma that often accompanies pain, illness, or disability, and cultivate compassion toward yourself. And because it’s inherently somatic, art therapy helps you engage your body in a safe, creative, and gentle way.
-
Life Transitions
Major life changes can bring up uncertainty, confusion, or a loss of direction. Whether you’re navigating a divorce, a career shift, becoming a parent, or grieving someone important, art therapy offers a way to process experiences that feel too big or unclear for words. Through image-making and reflection, we can explore identity, meaning, and what’s emerging on the other side of change.
My approach
My approach weaves together art therapy, mindfulness, and honest conversation about the systems that shape our lives, creating space for both personal insight and collective awareness.
Sessions are collaborative, relational, and paced to your needs. My work is a trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and neuroaffirming, creating space for you to show up fully and safely.
As both a clinician and artist, I value authenticity over perfection. You’ll be guided to explore materials, imagery, and reflection in ways that support integration and growth.
What to Expect
Sessions typically include:
A brief check-in or grounding practice
Creative exploration using chosen materials
Reflection and discussion on what emerged
While I often offer prompts or guidance to help you get started, you’ll always have the freedom to follow your own curiosity and intuition. Some sessions may be quiet and contemplative; others may invite deeper dialog or emotional release. Each piece of art becomes part of your healing journey, offering insight that continues to unfold between sessions.
